STUDY AREAS/SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH – Uveite

WHAT IS IT AND HOW TO RECOGNISE IT

UVEITIS is an inflammation of the uvea, the middle vascular tunic of the eye, rich in blood vessels and deputy to the nutrition of most of the ocular structures. An inflammatory process in the uvea can determine some damages on the cornea, the retina, the sclera and other ocular tissues.

Depending on inflamed area of the uvea, uveitis are distinguished in:
– anterior, the most common
– posterior
– intermediate

The cause of uveitis may be multiple: consequence of an eye infection, consequently of a systemic disease that affects initially different locations from the eye (as for example arthritis). Often the causes of inflammation are not clear, in this case it is called idiopathic uveitis.

WE RECOMMEND

INFLAMMATION is a constant in chronic disease of the ocular surface. Control the inflammation is useful to outdistance relapses, reduce symptoms and avoid complications.
